Joint Seminar of the Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań and the University of Basel

A joint seminar on the history of Eastern Europe in the 20th century and contemporary challenges in the region took place on Friday, 19 April at the Collegium Historicum UAM in Poznan. The seminar was organized by the Department of Eastern European History at UAM under the direction of Prof. Dr. Beata Halicka and the Department of Eastern European History at the University of Basel under the direction of Prof. Frithjof Benjamin Schenk. During the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the specifics of the functioning of Eastern Studies at both universities, to present selected ongoing research projects and to discuss possibilities for further cooperation. It was agreed that the next meeting would take place in Basel in a similar format. A joint workshop on oral history was considered and it was agreed that a group of students and lecturers from Basel would come to Poznan and Gniezno in June 2025. Discussions during the seminar and over meals took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, promoting mutual understanding and building good relations for the future. They were also sweetened by Swiss chocolate, which was a gift from our guests.
