As part of the cooperation between political scientists the AMU political science students participated in classes conducted in Switzerland in the summer semester 2024. Julia Grebenstein, Julia Rzymanek, Hanna Wojtyna, Amelia Wojciechowska and Krzysztof Żerko took part in the seminar “Einführung in die Humanitäre Hilfe” conducted by Mr. Mario Roman Behrens. Part of it was a study visit to Geneva.
From May 12-14, 2024, we had the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Geneva, exploring the embassy and various organizations such as UNDP and UNHCR. This trip not only allowed us to appreciate the charm of the city but also to discover fascinating career paths in humanitarian aid, which particularly caught my interest. These encounters were incredibly inspiring and opened up new professional perspectives for me.
Julia Grebenstein
Our visit in Geneva was very successful. We visited the headquarters of many organizations of humanitarian aid. After every meeting there was an engaging discussion.
Krzysztof Żerko
As students of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, we had the opportunity to go on a research trip to Geneva. It took place as part of our participation in lectures on humanitarian aid, which were hosted by the University of Basel.
During our stay, we had the opportunity to participate in meetings with representatives of a number of international organisations and institutions, including: Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations, CHC Alliance, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, United Nations Development Programme, UNHCR, and Fondation Suisse de Déminage.
The trip was a unique opportunity to see with our own eyes the places where actions affecting the fate of the global community are taken. As participants, we had the opportunity to take part in interesting discussions and ask questions that deepened our knowledge of how inter-national organisations operate. In addition, during a Q&A session with students from Basel, we were able to present the Polish perspective on the provision of humanitarian aid.
The trip was very rewarding and valuable. We hope that similar initiatives will take place more and more often.
